Some Real Progress! (7-30-2010)

We finally got some real progress! It's exciting to see anything resembling a 'home' starting to take shape!

We pulled up to the lot to see this:

Got a little closer to see all the progress that was made in the last 2 days. On Wednesday, we didn't even have the yard staked out for the excavator yet.

Below you can see the size of the sunken walk-out patio. It is the rectangular shaped area with the forms sitting in the middle. The little jog on the left side the jets out from the rectangle is the area where the stairs will go. It's a huge walkout patio!!!

Look at Sarah's shadow, you can see how the west sun will hit the house. The deck wil be nearly 100% shaded in the evenings by the overhang and the master bedroom!

The hole must have been dug yesterday, since the footings were poured early this afternoon. I'll be back Monday afternoon again to see if any more progress has been made! As always, stay tuned and leave comments, we love to read them!

Minor Update (07-25-10)

Just a quick update, not much action has happened in the last week as the builder has been working on securing his construction loan and pulling permits. It does look like the utilities have been flagged. Hopefully this next week we'll have a hole dug!

Here is the basic floor plan and elevation, we have made a few minor tweeks here and there, but this is the general layout. We will be finishing the basement ourselves, and will be slightly different than the builder's "typical" layout shown below. I'm working on a plan for the basement, and I'll upload that as soon as its finished.

Underway! (7-18-10)

Well, we decided to start a blog so that all of our friends and family can keep up with the progress of our house construction. We signed a contract in mid June on a 1613 sq ft Ranch in a neighborhood called Avalon Park in northwest Wichita. Our lot is near the end of a cul-de-sac. The neighborhood features a pool, playground, fishing ponds, and a 9 acre nature park. We hope to start seeing surveyors and stakes this week and hopefully we'll have a hole dug by the end of next week!
Our lot (backs up to the darker color house with the less weathered fence):
And a look down the cul-de-sac (can't wait to meet the guy with the 4 car garage!!!)

I'll keep on updating this blog as often as we see progress!
