Went to check the house after work today to see if the forms had been set in place yet. Sure enough, they had! And, the concrete had already been poured! Now we wait patiently for a couple weeks for the concrete to hydrate.
My garage....I can picture a 'vette parked in there.....can you?
Oh, now I get it! The basement walls are above ground with some windows. You're going to be grinning like all get out when the walls start going up in a couple of weeks. I love house construction - it's always intriguing. You're going to learn so much doing this and visiting all the time. Ask the builder about the benefits of extra insulation, OK?
ReplyDeleteJoan, the basement walls are partially above ground. The back wall is only partial height because there will be viewout windows framed in above it.
ReplyDeleteWe are getting R-13 insulation in the walls. The maximum you can get in a 2x4 built wall is R-15, which I believe is pretty rare and hard to come by.
OK, Lito was wondering about my comment on the windows cause he didn't see where they might be and he said "I'll wait until more is done to see how they'll do it". R-13 is good! We use R-11 here standard but Lito had 2x6 walls done on addition w/ either 13 or 15 but he can't remember. Probably 13. I know that our house is staying cooler this year because of the ceiling fans. Definitely worth the extra effort and cost.
